The research group E-Government is offering four researcher positions as of the next possible date with the following tasks
On 11th November 2016 computer scientist Andreas Kasten successfully defended his PhD thesis at the department of computer science at the University of Koblenz-Landau.
On 9th November WeST hosted the kick-off meeting of the DFG project „EVOWIPE - Explicit Forgetting of ontology - based knowledge in product development“ at the University of Koblenz-Landau.
On Saturday, 5th November visitors of all ages can gain insight into the manifold research topics of the computer science faculty at the University of Koblenz-Landau during the Night of Technology (Nacht der Technik).
On 24th October lecture period starts at the University of Koblenz-Landau. The Institute for Web Science and Technologies heartily welcomes 28 new Web Science students from Germany and abroad and wishes them a successful start!
In this year the Web Science discipline gets 10 years old. Since then the Web Science Trust has furthered the field through an annual Web Science Conference, The Web Observatory, and the Web Science Network, as well as supporting Web Science Education worldwide.
People communicate more and more online. The contents they create thereby provide valuable information about contemporary discourse, shared and conflicting opinions. The methods for analysing this information are discussed in the workshop „Social Media – echo chamber or public space?“ at 6th October 2016. It is hosted by the Fachgruppe Mediensprache/Mediendiskurse (professional group for language and discourse in media).
On 4th October WeST hosted the kick-off meeting of the DFG project „EXCITE – Extraction of Citations from PDF Documents“ at the University of Koblenz-Landau. The project develops algorithms for extracting references and citations from pdf full texts and matching them with bibliographic databases.
WeST and GESIS have opened a Topic Modeling portal under http://topicmodels.west.uni-koblenz.de. The portal collects and provides tools under a free license as well as tutorials for researchers from Web Science and Computational Social Science.28.09.2016
Steffen Staab is keynote speaker at the International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web
Steffen Staab, director of Institute WeST at the University of Koblenz-Landau, is keynote speaker at the International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web (KESW 2016) in Prague. In his talk „Programming with Semantic Broad Data“ he presents current research that targets the challenges that arise when organisations link various sets of Big Data to Broad Data.
