  • The online encyclopaedia Wikipedia is available in almost 300 languages, but very few articles are available in all of these. Apparently, some topics are jointly picked up by particular communities while other Wikipedia editions cover different topics. Is this coincidence or are there any commonalities between communities that explain this co-editing?

  • On Friday, 22nd January 2016 Dr. Matthias Thimm from Institute WeST succeeded in this habilitation at the computer science department at University of Koblenz-Landau. His scientific talk „On the Relationship between Belief Revision and Formal Argumentation“ completed his written contribution „Uncertainty and Inconsistency in Knowledge Representation“.

  • Research and teaching at WeST is mainly publicly funded and it is important to us to use the tax payers’ money responsibly. Therefore, we aim for a free and public access to our material, e.g. in the form of our online course „Introduction to Web Science“, hosted at Wikiversity.

  • In Germany's CHE Ranking 2015/2016, the department of computer science at the University of Koblenz-Landau received top scores. In particular, the categories "studying situation as a whole" as well as "supervision by lecturers" earned excellent ratings.

  • The Institute for Web Science and Technologies is glad to have its first graduate of the Master programme in Web Science: On 27. November, Miriam Kölle received her degree certificate at the graduation ceremony of the department of computer science in Koblenz.

  • EYEVIDO is a young venture, located in the science park Koblenz, that offers eyetracking studies. Its roots reach back to the Institute for Web Science & Technologies where the managing directors of EYEVIDO, Dr. Tina Walber and Christoph Schaefer, conducted research and offered courses in the field of eyetracking.

  • From 22. to 25. May 2016, the International ACM Web Science Conference (WebSci’16) will be held in Hannover, Germany. From Institute WeST, Prof. Dr. Steffen Staab is involved as program chair and Dr. Claudia Wagner participates as tutorial chair.
