Christoph Kling, former employee of the Institute for Web Science and Technologies (WeST), won the University award for his dissertation on "Probabilistic Models for Context in Social Media". His work dealt with the identification of topics from documents. He succeeded in precisely determining these topics by combining topic models with contextual data such as geographical location, time, etc. He was supervised by Prof. Steffen Staab from the WeST Institute. The price has been awarded by Wirtschafts- und Wissenschaftsallianz Koblenz. This makes Christoph Kling's dissertation the second doctoral thesis of a WeST member to be awarded the Koblenz University Prize. Klaas Dellschaft's dissertation received this award in 2013.
