Southampton University, RPI and WeST publish Web Science Manifesto

27 years ago the World Wide Web was born. Since then many things have changed: The Web has become the largest socio-technical construct of mankind, its users evolved from information consumers to socially connected prosumers, and the scientific discipline Web Science was created to investigate the technical, social, and human aspects of the Web.

This discipline has now become 10 years old. On this occasion Wendy Hall from the University of Southampton, Jim Hendler from the Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute and Steffen Staab from the Institute for Web Science and Technologies at the University of Koblenz-Landau published „A Manifesto for Web Science @10“. In their text they look back on the evolution of the Web and Web Science and consider the next developments after Articifial Intelligence and Social Machines.
