Getting into differences between firm-sponsored Linux kernel developers and Linux kernel hobbyists[go to overview]
Recent research attributes an increasing importance to firm-sponsored developers active in open source software (OSS) projects. Although the research field around OSS developers is not entirely new we have little knowledge about how firm-sponsored developers may be different in some aspects from their peers contributing to an OSS project in their leisure time. This presentation gives an insight into first empirical results derived of an online survey conducted among Linux kernel developers and tries to answer the question if firm-sponsored Linux kernel developers can be distinguished from LK hobbyists by specific characteristics.
