If You Want My Future, Don’t Forget My Past: Temporal Models of Linked Knowledge[go to overview]
In our current ICWSM submission we investigated temporal patterns of change in linked knowledge bases. In today's connected world of social media, linked knowledge bases such as Wikipedia play a fundamental role: They give us the backbone along which to organize knowledge emerging in all kinds of social media applications. At the same time, Wikipedia is highly dynamic, and one open question concerns the patterns of changes within its network structure: Do the patterns of change in Wikipedia follow simple rules? Can they be predicted? In this talk, I will investigate these questions from a point of view that is independent of the considered application and application domain: the structural point of view. In other words, I ask which temporal patterns of change control Wikipedia's hyperlink structure.
