Challenges in interpreting the outcome of political text classification; A study on the US Congress[go to overview]
This article studies the partisanship status in US congress between 2005 and 2017. Besides, it evaluates the use of party affiliation as an ideology classification method. The result shows that partisanship increased in recent years in the US. Besides, there is no strong evidence that shows the US House is more partisan than the Senate. Finally, party affiliation as an ideology classifier is under question because the party position in power also affects the language.
